Restore

Restore a backup on the same or a new server.

Restoring replaces all current data. On the server to restore:

  1. Configure .env.production with the same ORLOK_SECRET_KEY as the backed-up installation.

  2. Start only the database:

    docker compose --env-file .env.production up -d db

  3. Restore the dump:

    docker compose --env-file .env.production exec -T db \
  pg_restore -U orlok -d orlok --clean --if-exists < orlok-2026-01-31.dump

  4. Start the rest of the installation:

    docker compose --env-file .env.production up -d

Test a restore on a separate server from time to time: a backup is only proven by restoring it.

The backup must come with its ORLOK_SECRET_KEY: see Backup.
